As much as it is important to have a plan, you need to be aware of the tools that will help you achieve that plan. You will need to do research and prepare a list of resources that will help you achieve your goal. Here are the resource categories:

  • People
  • Organizations/Establishments
  • Websites
  • Apps
  • Podcasts
  • Books
  • Television/videos

People

When it comes to learning, many people can help you depending on what you want to learn. Whether it’s somebody you know or a friend of a friend, many people are willing to teach you or help you with things.

Organizations/Establishments

If you need to attend a class or workshop, doing your research to see where they offer that course or where it is the most affordable is essential. As I have decided I want to transition my career path to interior design, I will have to enroll in school and attend classes for a full year. I have already started looking at options.

Websites

We live in a time where we have access to so much information all over the internet that we would be really stupid not to take advantage of it. Yes, there is a lot of false information but there are many reliable websites you can learn a LOT from. Before deciding that I wanted to take interior design seriously, I knew I wanted to learn about it so I decided to take an online class. There are many websites that offer online courses. I see a lot of them on discount websites like Groupon which is where I found mine. Also, Google is everybody’s best friend to find anything on the internet. It’s an obvious one but it deserves to be recognized because I don’t know how I would survive life without it.

Apps

There is a multitude of apps in the app store that helps you learn a variety of things. At the moment, I am using the app Duolingo to learn Portuguese. Why portuguese? No particular reason really it is just something I’ve wanted to do!

Podcasts

My love for podcasts is very new and I am obsessed. There are many podcasts that you can search for on the app store depending on the subject you are looking for. I have learned a lot about business and self-improvement. It has also helped me with my anxiety.

Books

One of the best feelings when I want to learn about something is going to the bookstore and spending hours there looking for good books that will help. (Ok that includes browsing in the home section I can’t help myself.). The book I am reading at the moment is by Gretchen Rubin.

Television/videos

With endless documentaries on Netflix and Youtube videos, we now get to learn without it really feeling dreadful. I would be very surprised if there isn’t a documentary or YouTube video about what you want to learn.

One of the most important things to create while improving a part of your life is a resource kit. It will always come in handy when you are looking to do something specific or trying to remember something you saw/learned before. You can use whatever piece of paper to write things on while you are doing it and later transfer it to a nice notebook.
